allowed to realize that because then wed take the easy way back,
instead of the hard way. So why do we have to take the hard way?
Because in all this striving, and creating and fighting and living and
loving, weve been hard at work re-creating the God that we lost. By
dancing the dance of creation, were doing the work of God.
Way off in the future, this universe is gonna get the blues. And
when it does, its gonna die just like the rest of us. Only when this
universe dies, then everything it fought for for ten billion years gets
crushed to the size of a football again.
Just like you or me, the universe doesnt want to die. Everything
that we feel down deep, God feels too. God is our reality. It is
everything we know. Everything we are. It wants to live. It wants to
grow. Just like us. But even though the universe is growing, its also
dying. When the universe
really
gets the blues and starts to shrink
like an old man, why then it might be too late, because time will be
contracting, too. That might mean that everything that happened
before might happen again. Meaning basically, that times up.
But the strange thing is that theres only one thing in the
universe thats not dying at all. Theres one thing thats breaking the
law of the blues. And thats life. Bodies die, sure. But bodies is not
what life is all about. Life is the passage of information. Ideas.
Knowledge. We pass on that knowledge with sex, love and
communication. The question is, can we pass on that information,
and keep it growing and growing until that information becomes
strong enough to save reality from the blues? Or will we fail to
communicate, to understand, to learn, and in the end, destroy
ourselves and all that information and finally fail in the job that God
needs us to do? Will we understand the blues well enough to fight
against them?
You may not realize it, but you all have a special status in the
history of the world. Egypt is the fish of world civilizations. Humans
have forever been worshipping the earth, but here, for the first time,
man has begun to look up at the sky and wonder whats behind all the
blue. You have one foot in the river, and the other reaching up toward
the sun. In turning your attention back up to the sun, you have
recognized the greatness of the mind. And that recognition will give
rise to some pretty huge things in history, let me tell you.
So with the dedication of this temple, I want to help you in your
transition, by making sure that with your heads in the sky, your feet
are still firmly planted on the ground.
